Karen:
The info you sent me was enough to make the connection. The numbering system is my own (an old one!).:
3. Thomas Parvin c1735 (PA) - c1823 (KY)
3.5 Arthur Parvin 1787 (KY) - 1871 (MO)
3.5.9 Arthur Parvin c1834 (MO) - 1889 (MO)
3.5.9.3 Daniel Parvin 1858 (MO) -?
3.5.9.3.3 George Ray Parvin? (OR) - ? (CA)
3.5.9.3.3.1 Dan Ray Parvin 1932 (CA) - ?
3.5.9.3.3.1.2 Karen Parvin 1955 -
I have several generations beyond Thomas Parvin, but unfortuantely I'm not certain of exactly which family in Pennsylvania he came from. If you or someone could find that missing link (I've tried!) this line could go back to 1604, as the two other Parvin genealogies do.
If you can give me a FAX number or snail-mail address, I'll mail you a copy of the six pages this information is abstracted from. It will show marriages, children, and locations at each generation - where available. It is from my book "Descendants of Thomas Parvin of Kentucky" in case you have access to it. I know the Mormon library in SLC has a copy and it might be online now. I pretty well wrapped it up in the late 1970s -- before word processors and internet were available. However, I was doing a lot of traveling then and visited many sources (including Yorkshire)and talked to many Parvins!
Now, as for your other comments. Yes, I too heard that we were descended from Hugenots, but I haven't been able to find any connection. the Hugenot Society of America had no record of a Parvin immigrating to America, and we have records going back to England long before the Edit of Nantes was revoked, which triggered the mass exodus of Protestants from France.
But if I can prove a blood descent from Persian Parvins, our ancestors could have come via the Moorish occupation of Europe. Or another theory was advanced by and Iranian doctor who was on a tour with us in central Europe last year. He said that when the Arabs invaded Persia in the 7th century and imposed the Islam religion, many Persian Christians fled to Europe. We'll never know, but it would be a breakthrough to find a blood relative in Persia!
I'm contacting several Parvins whose name suggests they might be Iranian to see if one will cooperate with the DNA project. Incidentally, a Parvin niece of mine married an Iranian and lived in Iran. Might even still live there; I don't know. They tried to draft her into the army until they found she doesn't speak Farsi! She decided not to learn it.
I hadn't heard of the "Black Irish". Tell me more!
regards, Dick
