I am researching the Parton/Parten/Partain of Williamson Co. IL., Marshall Co. AL., TN. and South Carolina.

When I first started looking for my fathers family I was told that a group of Parton from TN. and AL. made a trip to Southern IL, Some died on the way, others turned around and went back and some went on.

I found my great grandfather and his brothers in the 1860 Williamson Co., IL in the census but they are living with Arnold’s or Wright families. I later found the guardianship records for James M., Seaborne Banister, Wilson H., Joseph Benjamin, and John Stony Parton. Their father was named as James, deceased.

I first find James Parting in Marshall Co. AL. in the 1850 census. James says he was born 1812 in S. Carolina. His wife is Melissa (Smith) and she was born about 1814 in TN. Their children are listed as: Casing D.(not sure of this name), age 13 and he is a male, born in TN., Nancy Ann, 10 yrs, Martela, female, age 8, Sarah F. age 6, James M. age 4, and Banister C. age 1.

In the 1850 census in Weakly Co. TN. B. (Banister) Parton age 57 born N. C., W. C. (Wilson C. ) Parton age 36, and Born N. C. and B. P. (Banster Pinkney). Age 27 and born in TN. All three of these Partons are all on the same page in the 1850 census. Wilson and Banister Pinkney Parton married sisters, in Madison Co. AL. in the late 1830’s. Part of Wilson and Banister Pinkney children are born in AL. and TN.

Wilson C. Partain is in the 1860 census in Johnson Co. IL., James Parton boys are farmed out to different families in IL. And Banister Pinkney Parton is in the 1860 Marshall Co. AL. census.

My question is could Wilson Parton and James Partin be brothers? My problem is Wilson was born in N. C. and James in S. C. I really think this family is related and if there is anyone out there that can help me I would really appreciate it.
