Col. Charles Partee, was born in France on 31 Aug 1747, and brought to America by his parents prior to 1754.Charles Partee grew up in Virginia and North Carolina. It is not known just what was the service rendered by Charles during the American Revolution. No military service record has been discovered that would prove the claim made on his tombstone "Col. of the Revolutionary War," but he did give enough material or military support to the effort to make his eligible for a grant of 5000 acres of land from the North Carolina government. In 1811 he moved to this land, in Maury Co., Tn., and became one of the early settlers in the region a few allies west of the Columbia, the newly created county seat.Mr. Partee married Barsheba Barringer, evidently in North Carolina, and they proceeded to rear a family of ten children, 5 sons and 4 daughers.
When he died, on 18 Dec 1829, he wass relatively wealthy, leaving t his children large estates, slaves and other property. His is buried in this small graveyard on his plantation and it can be supposed that Barsheba rests beside him in an unmarked grave at Partee-Page Cemetery
(In Santa Fe Pike, opposite Phillipi Church Road, behind house on Dewey Norman place.)
