My guess is that the surname PARRITT is a variant of some other name, perhaps Parrott or Paret. In other words, your branch of the family somehow ended up with a different spelling of the family name, and Parritt was not the original spelling.
I am a descendant of a Stephen Paret who came from France. In the old records, spelling was practically an art form; people seemed to have made up spellings as they went along.I have seen MANY spellings for my Paret family, including Parritt, and I only know it's supposed to be Paret because Stephen here and his mother back in France spelled it that way.In my research however, I've noticed that there seem to be more people in this country named Parrott whose ancestors came from England. If your ancestors lived in the South, they probably are connected to the Parrott families there. There seem to have been more of them there than in the North. In order to determine anything about your family though, you have to trace your personal line.
I hope you discover your heritage.
