Hello,
I have information on Suzanne(ah) Parmele you might find of interest. This information relates to my direct line of Parmele that I have verified as well as include research I continue to do on the Stone family.I won't mention everything here; maybe you'd like to contact me privately for details.
Suzanne(ah)Parmele was born in Guilford, CT January 19, 1692. The year is verified and is not 1693.Her line is Joshua3, John2, John1.I descend from her younger brother Jonathan (1701-1772).Both John and John Parmele immigrated from England. The son John immigrated to Boston in 1635 and came to Guilford, CT after 1641.He is the father of all present day Parmele descendants who trace back to 1639 New England. In 1639 John Parmele, his father, immigrated to New Haven, CT and is one of the founders of the town of Guilford, CT. His signature is on the historical document, he was one of the more wealthy and prominent settlers. Suzanne is the great granddaughter of this founding father. There is no record of her death. I live in Guilford, CT.
Suzanne Parmele married Joshua Stone. His line: William, William. There are two Stone lines in Guilford, CT: John Stone and William Stone and this line belongs to William. Also, do not be confused with the generations here. John1 Parmele was one of the eldest immigrants to Guilford. William Stone also signed the plantation covenant of Guilford, CT. Joshua was born May 3, 1692 and died May 20, 1750 when only 57 years of age.
At the Guilford Free Library there is a genealogy The Family of William Stone by Edward P Stone Sr.It was written that Joshua Stone was buried at North Guilford cemetery, the oldest tombstone at the time of the writing, but I was unsuccessful at locating the site. Perhaps the tombstone no longer exists, but it is said he was buried in that cemetery. Joshua Stone was instrumental in establishing the Cohabit of North Guilford in the 18th century.North Guilford remains part of Guilford proper but is called to this day North Guilford. He signed the petition to search for a minister for North Guilford.
Yet another interesting note on the genealogy of the Stone family. Joshua Parmele married second to Hannah (Dewolfe) Stone however she is not the mother of Suzanne or Jonathan.
Hannah was the widow of Benajah Stone. Benajah Stone was the son of Benajah and Hester (Kirby) Stone. This Hannah Stone is the aunt of your Joshua Stone as well as he is her son-in-law.
Here are the children of Joshua Parmele and Alse Edwards:
Daniel
Susanne (your ancestor)
Ann
Timothy
David
Jonathan (my ancestor)
The children of Joshua Parmele and Hannah (Dewolfe) Stone
Jennie
Jeheil
Hannah
Charles
Lucy
Sybil
Hannah remarried after Joshua died in 1729. She married Dr. Benjamin Hull and moved to Wallingford, CT.When her children by Joshua became of age she distributed Joshua Parmele's estate. I continue to trace this distribution. I intend to find out where his estate was in the section of Guilford called Nut Plains. At the Whitfield Museum (1639 Stone house) is kept a deed dated 1727 with the signature of Joshua Parmele. He spelled his name "Parmele" so that's why I spell Parmele with one e at the end.
Hope this helps with your research. Anything else you want to know?
Michele
