Laurie Rexford was Laura Ann Hamilton Rexford, mother of the Laura Ann Rexford Bennett that I'm trying to trace. (The family used the name "Laura" throughout several generations, leading me to believe that Laura Hamilton Rexford's own mother might have been named "Laura.") I don't think it's too likely that the elder lady would have remarried in her 70's, although it's certainly possible. I don't know when or where she died; probably she moved back to Oregon to live with family after 1880. I also don't believe she was born in Rhode Island; she was probably born in Steuben County, New York. The problem with Laura Rexford Jr. is that she falls in the category of "trashy grandmother" for me. She was divorced from my great-great-grandfather William Bennett when she committed adultery with one George Devendorf, then lived with George for over 10 years (but never married him). After 1880 she disappeared. I had one clue that she may have married a man with the surname of "Murray" but that never went anywhere. Then I found the Rexford-Parks marriage record. I believe that Laura Rexford Bennett (Devendorf? Murray? Parks?) probably passed away before 1915, because her brother's obituary does not mention her as a living relative in that year. Thank you for trying to help. I'll probably never learn what happened to either the daughter or the mother. Nancy Notify Administrator about this message?
