Title: History of Washington County, Pennsylvania : with biographical sketches of many of its pioneers and prominent men / edited by Boyd Crumrine. Illustrated. Philadelphia: L.H. Everts and Co., 1882.
Author: Crumrine, Boyd, 1838-1916

Pg. 573

On the first day of April , 1837, the name of Monongahela City was adopted, and the terms “town of Williamsport” and “Parkinson’s Ferry post-office became things of the past.” In 1840, according to the U. S. census, Monongahela City contained 752 inhabitants...Although the town was incorporated as a borough in 1833 (when until September, 1834, it comprised portions of Fallowfield and Nottingham townships), it seems that it did not have or maintain an existence separate from the townships for some eight or nine years thereafter.
