Thanks for your message. Quite possibly their could be a link somewhere here but I haven't really investigated my granddad's parents properly yet - will have to sent for birth cert. I found the death of his father (listed as William) and mother in Cannock. It seems working out age from the year he died that he was born in about 1877. Rumour has it that the family came from Bloxwich and earlier from Wednesbury/Dudley.
There is a particular William Parkes in Bloxwich in 1901 which may be the one - this William does have a brother John so maybe there is a connection but, as I said, I need to research properly! My mom says her father had cousins in the Chadsmoor area.
Incidentally, you may have alsready found out, but there is a John Henry Parkes born in Walsall in 1904. Also I found a marriage of a John Henry Parkes and a Mary Jane Grainger in Ap-June 1901 in Dudley area, Christ Church Coseley.
