This message is to announce a new PARK/E/S DNA surname project, in association with the Parke Society, through the DNA testing firm, FamilyTreeDNA (FTDNA). Building upon the base of an earlier test project, we now have over 30 test results in our database, with more currently being processed. The scope of the project matches that of the Parke Society’s area of interest, i.e., all researchers with ancestors from the British Isles with variants of the PARKE surname (PARK-PARKE-PARKES-PARKS) who emigrated to the United States and Canada. To particpate, test candidates must be a direct line male descendant bearing the PARK/E/S surname. Other PARK/E/S researchers interested in participating are urged to find eligible test candidates in their line of research to participate in the testing process. More information on Y-chromosome testing can be found at the FTDNA website, whose link is given below. Membership in the Parke Society is not a requirement for participation in the project, but researchers are encouraged to consider joining the society in order to take advantage of the many benefits of membership. Some of these benefits include quarterly society newsletters containing useful articles on various PARK/E/S research projects, as well as access to the society’s extensive lending library of PARK/E/S related material. For more information on joining, see the Parke Society’s link below. The PARK/E/S DNA Surname Project has posted its test results on a website provided by FTDNA. That link is also given below. Results are posted as they become available, using a code number to identify the participants in order to maintain their privacy. Some brief background information on each participant’s PARK/E/S ancestry is also posted, when available, to aid others in seeing if their own PARK/E/S line is currently being tested. It is our hope that PARK/E/S researchers will find this surname project a useful tool to aid their traditional research methods. Obviously, the more test results we have in our database, the more information can be gleaned about the various PARK/ES branches and how they may relate to one another. Please feel free to contact the group administrator for more information, or to answer questions about what level of initial testing would be appropriate or any other matters.
