My great-great grandfather is Archibald Kirkland who was born in 1763, probably in South Carolina, the son of James Kirkland who came from Scotland. Archibald settled in Fayette, Alabama, married Mary Hannah Chaney and had 10 kids. One of the children was Robert B. Kirkland, born 1818, who is my great grandfather. Another child was William Wilson Kirkland. I don't know who he married, but he was born in the time period you mentioned. The other siblings were: Elizabeth, Lavinia, Jehu Chaney, John R., Mary Ann, Jenny, Joab, and unknown.
Let me hear from you often. I need information on Archibald, William's father. Send me any details you have of William.

Good luck.

I may be able to help you a little with your Nancy. The only Bowden at that
time available for marriage was our William Bowdon, Jr. He is the son of
William and Nancy Wigging of North Carolina. Your saying They moved to
Mississippi fits in with the Bowdon family. William, Jr. brothers John and
Travis moved from Bedford/Coffee Co., TN in the early 1850's and moved to
DeSoto/Tate County, Mississippi and in all probability William, Jr. followed
them. There was a large collection of Bowdons there.
