Thank you Betty, I wasn't sure about how William Thomas Parham fit in. Many of my mother's Hughes family are buried in Riverside Cemetery. Regarding your Lot 249 entries: T.L. Hughes was Thomas Lycergus Hughes (Kirk), who was the 7th child of James and Martha P. Hughes. He was born on March 15, 1847. The family bible mentions that he died of pneumonia. G.G. Hughes was my great-grandfather, who was the 2nd child (1st child to survive infancy) of James and Martha. He died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1878, and served in the 18th/19th Confederate Cavalry under Col. John Newsom, his wife's uncle. James E(mmet) Hughes married Georgia (last name?) He served in the 6th Confederate Infantry and received a state pension, I believe. I don't know anything about Vernet Lamar Gresham. The tombstone remnant (partially) inscribed Nellie was likely Eleanora Snider Epperson, who married Alexander B. Person on 5/9/1866. She was a half-sister to George G. Hughes' wife Sarah Harding Hill Hughes. Sarah's father (Charles Allen Hill) died early on and her mother (Elizabeth Harding Newsom Hill) then married Samuel Epperson (1804-1856) and had Eleanora S. Epperson (1845-1891) and Thomas Newsom Epperson (1847-1910). The interesting thing about James Hughes and Martha Wyatt Parham is that he was born in Ireland and was Catholic. They had Catholic services in their home before the first Catholic church in Jackson was built. Their son George married Sarah Harding Hill, who was Baptist. If you know anything about Thomas Parham's (Martha's father) ancestors, I would greatly appreciate it. Notify Administrator about this message?
