My ancestor was also William Parfitt born in Barford. He was the son of George and Elizabeth Parfitt also of Barford.
George and Elizabeth Paul or Pole were married on the 4th July, 1838.He could sign his name but she couldn't.The were both listed as labourers and in the 1881 census they are recorded aged 64 living at Factory Lane, Barford and at that time George was a farm labourer. George was baptised at Barford on the 25t December, 1816 but he appears to have been born on the 8th February, 1816 (the writing in the registers was not too clear). Elizabeth was born on the 11th February, 1816.
Elizabeth's father is named as Joseph Paul and George's father as George.
George was the son of George and Sara Parfoot(Parfitt).George senior was a weaver and I wondered whether he might have worked at the nearby Wilton carpet factory?
There is a record of George Parfitt marrying Sara Hibberd at Barford on the 1st June, 1816.George could write but Sara couldn't.
The Parfitt's in Wiltshire seem to go back a long way.I found a reference to a Will for a Harry Parefeth (Parfitt) in 1552.
My descent from William and Elizabeth who came from Eling, Hampshire is through their daughter Lillian. Her first husband was Sidney Fox.Winnie was their daughter. She married Stanley Russell. In later life they kept the Diamond in Norfolk Street, Southsea.Their son was Allan Russell born 23 December, 1932 died 10 April, 1997.I am his eldest child.Would be so interested to hear from you.Within the family it has been extremely difficult to get any information about the family.
