I only have a few sources for this information. But no real proof of a marriage or link to David's father. What I have is listed below.
The original is a family history dated 1961 by Ivylyn Oliver Askew an attorney in Gainesville Ga. and my 1st cousin once removed. It stated David S. Oliver was born in South Carolina and his mother was Mary Pardue Oliver Hughs and that she moved to Habersham County with David after the death of David's father. David was the only child by Oliver. This would have been about about 1828. Mary then married a Hugh. Ivylyn lists David's birth place as Orangeburge, South Carolina originally and later in Edgefield Co.
My second source is the book "Links The Ramsey Family" by Elizabeth Ramsey published in 1974 (David's oldest child Eliza married A.D. Ramsey).
On page 182 "David Stewart (Oliver)was the son of Mary Pardue. His father died while he was small, evidently before Favid Stewart and his mother came to Georgia. They lived at Clarksville, Habersham County, athe the time she married Tom Hughes".
On page 187 "The Sarah Pardue with the Thomas J. Hughes family in habersham in the 1850 census is believed to have been the widow of Lilliston Pardue and daughter of James and Elizabeth Chadwick West." also "Lilliston and Sarah were married in 1793. Lilliston was the son of John Pardieu who left a will in Warren County (Old Butte), N. C., in 1769."
Elizabeth lists David's birth place as Edgefield Co. South Carolina.
The Clarkesville,Habersham County Ga.Census page 66 for 1850 shows a Thomas J. Hughes age 49, Lucinda Hughes age 49 and a Sarah Purdue Widow age 75 all born in S.C. Also a T.J. Hughes Jr. age 16 and G.J. Hughes age 12 both born in Clarkesville. Thomas is listed as School Master.
