Kenneth:

Welcome to the club. That's the "Who was Leroy Pardue's father club"? You have listed both sides of the controversy. One side has Richard as his father and another side has Joel as his dad. Who's right depends on who you talk to. As far as I know neither side has the evidence to convince the other they as mistaken. Family researchers back in the 1960's hit a wall with Leroy and could not find who his father was. One side wanting to get into the DAR rather badly seized on Lee Pardue mentioned as a son of Joel's as having to be Leroy and got into the DAR based on Joel's service in the South Carolina Militia. The other side seized on a purported letter of 1816 in the possession of a Pardue decendant from Leroy in South Carolina to a Pardue in Tennessee calling him brother and trying to convince him to move back to South Carolina and take up farming on land of Leroy's father-in-law, Joseph West. This brother (name slips my mind at the moment) was named in a will left by Richard ergo Leroy must have been a child of Richard's.

Please contact me if you wish.
