Eileen,

Have you heard the story that Daniel was a captain of a ship that sailed the Great Lakes? Supposedly, he sailed to Northport, Leelanau Co., Michigan to attend his daughters wedding, Clara Matilda to Nahum Avery on 12 Nov, 1871. A storm came up and his family begged him to wait it out, but he needed to get to the next shore (possibly to Wisconsin). His ship went down and he drowned. (Clara's mother was Sally Smith d. 12 Aug 1868 in Jeddo, St. Clair Co., Mi. Daniel was a farmer then. His second marriage was to Priscilla Wilcox d. 18 Nov 1893 in Northport, Leelanau Co., Michigan)

I've had a couple of research relay this same story to me, but haven't found any other information to qualify what was told.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Judy Kapa
