Have you attempted to find that name on the Ellis Island web site? If you get a hit the information tht you find from the ships manifest might line up with info you have now. Such as the village you are from or the person that they were coming to meet, or even the city that they were traveling to.
The Ellis Island records are sketchy for freighters coming in from 1900 through 1912, but their passenger ship manifests are incredible.
Try as many spellings as you can.
