Alice, we may have corresponded in the past, I can't remember but I have been looking for anything on my ancestor as well, it seems he just "fell out of the sky" at times. His name is also John Pannel, my great-great grandfather, he was b. abt. 1790 in Roane County, TN. Since Roane County was not formed intil 1801 from Knox County, which was also known then as Indian Lands and/or The Southwest Territory, there is no sure proof that I have found where he was born,I have been at a brick wall for sometime now.
I found the John Pannel b. in Mecklenburg, N.C. (source was War of 1812 military records) which you say is your ancestor, (I also found another John Pannel on the same records listed as deceased). Then I am assuming your ancestor is the John Pannel that also drew a pension in Monroe County, TN in 1840, is this correct?
I have found no connection between my John Pannel and your John Pannel. I have noticed a Mary Webb married a Benjamin Pannell. I have a Mary and Naomi Webb that connects to my Jett line. I have several Kelsoe's that connect into this line as well, but that doesn't mean anything.
If you would like to post or e-mail me please do so, I am very interested in finding records on my John and it would be a pleasure to work with you on finding the truth about our Johns.
