In the 1910 US Census Mitchell Co., NC, I have Martin L. Pannell 8 years old in the household of Martin C.( middle name Coleman) Pannell his wife, Emma (maiden name Young) Pannell and other children.
In 1920 Census they are listed in Rutherford Co., NC and Martin L. was 18.
The Martin Coleman Pannell in these records (father of Martin L.) was the son of Woodward Pannell. He was the grandson of Martin Pannell who was born in South Carolina to William Pannell, Jr., son of William Pannell, Sr.
William Pannell, Jr. and his wife, Elizabeth had 8 children and the youngest 2 were Dove and Martin. All 8 were named in an estate settlement in 1810 after their father died.
A few years after William Pannell, Jr. died Martin Coleman, his brother Dove and (I believe) their mother moved from Fairfield Co., SC to NC. Eventually Martin lived in Cleveland Co. and Dove lived in Rutherford. They were Baptist ministers.
I hope I have been able to write this so that it makes sense to you!
Although they are not in my direct line being cousins to my branch, I have a good deal of information on them and would be glad to share with you.
I'm sorry that I can't tell you what happened to your Martin Luther Pannell and hope that someone else can. I do have names of his brothers and sisters that I got from different sources, mostly from census records, if you want them.
