When I was small, we lived in Blue Springs next door to "Uncle" Johnny Pannell and his daughter, Myrtle, a maiden lady who died sometime in the 1930's. I never knew Pearl or her family. I imagine my parents knew her. I knew Riley and his family, at least one of the boys was about my age in school.

Mr. W. J. whose name was John-I think the W. was for William but am not sure-was actually a cousin to my great grandmother but out of respect we children called him Uncle. He and Miss Myrtle made a fuss over me and made me feel very special which is one of the reasons I remember them so well.

His parents were William Jackson Pannell and Emeline McCraw. William Jackson was the oldest son of Richard Walter "Dicky" Pannell and Elizabeth Grubbs. They migrated to old Pontotoc Co. between 1840-1850 from Chester Co. SC. along with three other of his brothers from across the county line in Fairfield Co. Richard's father was Anderson Pannell of Fairfield Co. SC. His great grandfather was William Pannell who had settled there by 1768 according to an early land grant.

Uncle Johnny was not a large man, he was medium height, wiry, with a droopy mustache. He was sharp and foxy; he had a local reputation for predicting the weather and was correct in his predictions about as often as modern radar.

you may already have this family background. I have a good deal of information on the family and glad to share any of it you might want.

Again, I am very pleased to know about Pearl. Thank you. Please give my regards to your Mother in law. She is fortunate to have you looking up her family background.
