I'm researching the area in Orava County, (northwestern) Slovakia where my grandparents and great grandparents came from.
My grandfather, Istvan PANEK was born 1872 in Trsztena (Trstena) which was and still is a border crossing into Poland.
My grandmother, Marie GONDERA Panek was born 1879 in Oszada (Osada) which was a small village on the Black Orava River a few miles north of Trstena.
I've located both towns on old maps, however the town of Oszada was evidently flooded over by the creation of Lake Orava ("Oravska Priehrada") sometime around 1950.
My great grandparents, Matthaem PANEK/Maria DZURIK were from Trstena, Orava County.
My great grandparents Janos GONDERA/Maria ZAVLACZKY were from Oszada, Orava County, Slovakia.
I would like to hear from anyone with these surnames.
