My grandfather's name was Michael Panek. He came from Poland in the early 1900's. He was from the area of the Carpathian Mts. in Poland. In the USA he settled in PA near Harrisburg as a miner. Later he moved to Perry NY where he worked in the knitting mills.

I went to Poland 2 years ago and found dozens of Paneks in the phone book in Zacopane.
