PANCOAST, FRANCIS L.
B: 1846 in Vineland, NJ.
D: ?

I'm trying to find out what ever happened to FRANCIS L PANCOAST. He was the second husband of my g-g-grandmother, VIRGINIA ANN "JENNIE" PERRY. Her first husband was JAMES CONLIN, an Irish immigrant who became a Union soldier.

JENNIE PERRY CONLIN was from Fredericksburg, VA but her first marriage took her from there to Washington Territory. She had three children with her first husband before marrying FRANCIS L. PANCOAST, with whom she had another four. He too was a soldier and they lived in Port Townsend, Jefferson Co, WA (WA Territory as it was then). FRANCIS' army enlistment records on Ancestry.com show that he was stationed at Sitka, Alaska for at least part of the time JENNIE and the children lived in Port Townsend.

FRANCIS L. PANCOAST'S known children:

1) WILLIAM PANCOAST b. abt. 1876 d. 13 March 1931 - married to MABLE SEARLES, divorced, no known children. Homes in Vancouver, WA and CA.

2) MARY (MAE) ALICE PANCOAST b. 1877 d. ? - married to FRED BOWNE. Home in Vancouver, WA.
Children: Fred W. b. 1901
Helen b. 1913
Richard P. b. 1916
John Austin b. 1918

3) KATY PANCOASTt b. 1879 in Washington Territory.

4) FRED ELMER PANCOAST b. 3 March 1884 d. 27 Jan 1938.

Stepchildren:

1) Thomas M. CONLIN
2) Lucy Anne CONLIN
3) James Henry CONLIN

In Feb 1884 FRANCIS was charged in Port Townsend, WA with the rape of his wife JENNIE'S niece, 10 year old MINNIE EDGILL. He was held in city jail because he couldn't make bail until the district court returned to town in Aug 1884. The district court file for this and 14 other cases are all missing from the WA SW regional archive and are not in Jefferson county in any library, historical society, or court archive.

Anyone with an interest in this family is welcome to contact me. I have more info and will gladly share what I've learned.
