We might be related. My Maternal Grandfather's name was George Josiah Gooding. Here are some notes I got from my mom and my cousin:
Grandpa had twenty-five brothers and sisters who migrated from St George Village Barbados to Trinidad. He migrated to Cuba and then to Panama to work on the Panama Canal. He met Grandma (Georgiana De Silva) in Panama or Cuba. She was born in St Kits. He was 11 years older than Grandma when she was 18. They married and then went to the USA where he worked in the Printing trade and then later on became a minister. Grandma's father, Senior Joseph Manuel De Silva was a merchant from Lisbon who traveled quite a bit. On one trip he took his wife with him and that is how Grandma came to be born in St Kits.
Grandpa Gooding worked as a Master Printer and Roller maker at Pac Press Inc. Had his own print shop until depression wiped him out.
He also had a small Grocery store at one time.
According to my cousin Mackie Carpenter, Grandpa emigrated to Panama to work on the canal, then to Boston before finally settling in Brooklyn, NY.
There are relatives all over Colon Panama, Barbados, and Boston, Cuba, and New York.
Please contact me one way or another.
