There was a President of Panama named Octavio Mendez Pereira. His father was Joaquin Mendez and his mother was Micaela Pereira. Octavio had 9 brothers and 1 sister. The family was from Aguadulce. There is a short bio of Joaquin Mendez and a picture of his family on page 319 of "The Blue Book of Panama" edited by William T. Scoullar. A digital (pdf) version is available online at the National Library of Panama.
