TO: VALERIE STADTAGHEN: LOOKING FOR GERMAN ANCESTORS FIRST TO COME TO NIC. There's a German colony in Nicaragua. In the northern highlands, a small town (city) called Matagalpa. Many Germans came to Nic, because, of the war in Europe and the Nic Gov was giving away or allotting land to coffe growers. This area of Matagalpa in mountaineous, and the Germans called it "Selva Negra". One of the families opened a mountain hotel: Selva Negra, and in their web-site they mention about the first Germans to come to that area. Some last names: Kuhl, Mierich, ... do a search in google for selva negra, matagalpa, nic. I recall that in the web-site they have photos of the grave sites of their ascendants... I'm from Jinotega, a town 30 kilometers north of Jinotega. The last name Stadtaghen is very well known in Northern Nic; but, they now live in Managua, if you put an add out in La Prensa, Nic, I'm certain you will obtain tons of info. One of the Stadtaghen died in the month of Ag 2006, and it was posted in that newspaper.
