My maternal grandmother was Ana America Castille/o/a Falcon. I only have her baptismal certificate from the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Colon, which is very difficult to read. I am not even sure if her name was Castillo or Castille, but I am fairly sure it is CastillE. I do not speak Spanish (yet!) but if you do here is the info on her baptismal certificate.
Here is the info I have.
Certifico: que Ana America Falcon.
Nacio en Panama, el 15 de November 1918
hija natural (does that mean illegitimate?) de Pedro (or Peter) Falcon y de Maria Castille, fue bautizado en esta Parroquia por el Reverendo Padre: Nicolas Alonso, CMF, el dia 25 de Marzo 1935.
Fueron padrinos: Pedro Fernandez Parrilla
Colon, R de P., 11 de Junio de 1943
(then it is signed) Felip M. Monasterio
My grandmother never discussed her life before she married my grandfather (Edmund Gallant), who was a serviceman stationed at Fort Davis. All she ever said was that her father was an engineer from NEW ORLEANS who went to work on the canal when it was being constructed. I think she may have been both ashamed of her parents being unmarried and that she came fom abject poverty. Also, unfortunately at the time she came to America people were not so proud of their ethnic background as they are now (I wish she'd taught me Spanish!) My grandmother once said she had a brother who died young.
I have been trying to find info for a while, but as I said I don't speak Spanish or have any other records than what I stated above and that she entered this country through Miami, Fl on 3/29/45.
I hope this helps you..if you find out anything let me know please. Maybe we are related!
