Captain Humphrey C. Allen d. 1881 San Blas Bay

I am looking for Captain Humphrey Choate Allen who died at San Blas Bay, Panama on 07 July 1881. He was a ship's carpenter originally in 16 November 1847, when he listed his occupation on his marriage register to Fanny L. Burnham in Essex, Massachusetts. Obviously he advanced to Captain somewhere along the way. Humphrey Allen was from Essex, Essex County, Massachusetts born 23 September 1825. He had at least three sons, Edgar, Humphrey, and Erving W. What was he doing in Panama at the time, and how did he die?
