Hi Heather:
I live in Panama City and I'll try to help you a little with some info about your interests.
First of all, we have now an Agency which is in charge of Panama Canal Affairs called Autoridad de la region interoceanica (phone number (507)211-9680 public relationships), also you can ask at american embassy about the cemetery (tel: (507)207-7000).
About Coronado (where are the villages) is a fantastic resort, which you like a lot. It has beautiful beaches and at this time you can enjoy them a lot. Near Coronado it's El Valle (45 min in car), a great place to visit with the family (has many recreational activities, if you're traveling through Travel Agency, you can ask them about facilities to visit it).
Coronado is located an hour and a half from Panama City. If you stay a couple of days in the city you must visit the Canal, the Old City, the Ruins of Panama la Vieja, the Coastway (in where there are nice family restaurants), and the shopping malls of the city (very low prices in summer clothes and shoes).
I hope this helps and if you need more information don't hesitate in telling me.

Marian
