State Journal-Register, The (Springfield, IL) - December 24, 2006 Deceased Name: Ed Palen Jr. SPRINGFIELD - Ed "Chip" Palen Jr., 59, of Springfield died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at his home. He was born Dec. 24, 1946, in Savannah, Ga., the son of Edward and Eileen Jenson Palen Sr. He married Marcia "Marci" Kurtz in 1986. Mr. Palen was a radio disc jockey and program director of WTAX and WVEM and a customer service representative for Bunn-O-Matic. He formerly owned Accu-Fast Word Processing. He was a member of Heartland Worship Center. Survivors: wife, Marci; three daughters, Dawn (husband, Don) Karcher of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Amy (husband, Mark) Nelson and Rachel (husband, Christopher) Sorenson, both of Springfield; four sons, Ernie (wife, Kelly) Kurtz, Drew Jackson (partner, Jim Monroe) and Scott Palen, all of Springfield, and Skip (wife, Pam) Palen of Chatham; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; two sisters, Diane (husband, Jim) Bock of Alton and Midge Palen of Alton; four brothers, Jim (wife, Shirley) Palen of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Tim (wife, Linda) Palen of Alton, Mike (wife, Sandy) Palen of Bradenton, Fla., and Joe Palen of Columbia, Mo.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
