My father Ronald Burford has recently passed away, for some years now he has been trying without sucesss to find the last resting place of his mother Emma Louisa Burford (nee Painting). I would like to continue the quest to find her and I would like to lay Dad's ashes with her.

What I know so far:

The children of Thomas Painting and Elizabeth Painting my great Grandparents.

The address given was as 3 Worcester Road, Chipping Norton.

Thomas Painting was a Carpenter by trade.

Name Born
Sarah Edith 04.07.1888
Ruth Elizabeth 25.11.1889
Alice Florence 31.08.1892
James 27.04.1894
Emma Louisa 15.09.1895 (my Grandmother)
Lily Naomi 12.03.1901
Ernest Edward 19.12.1901

Thomas painting (aged 28, weaver) married Elizabeth Matthews also 28 on 30.07.1887 at Chipping Norton both
were born in 1859 Elizabeth Matthews was baptised 06.03.1859, Elizabeth's parents John and Ann(nee Fowler) married 02.07.1846

Dennis Painting has told me that Thomas Painting was born 1859 in Great Tew, he married Caroline Fanny Skuce in 1882 in Great Tew. They had one child, Richard, born sometime in 1883 Caroline died in 1885-6 date not confirmed.

I do have a copy of Emma's birth, marraige and death certificates, she was born on 15th September 1895 they lived at 53 ???? Hill in Chipping Norton, she married my Grandfather William Burford in Chipping Norton on 21st March 1918. Dad, Ronald Burford was born 18.02.1920,
Emma dies 8 days later on the 26th February 1920. They were living at 74A Church Street, Paddock, Huddersfield at the time but we believe that Emma's body was returned to Chipping Norton, but we do not know where she was buried.

Dad spent many of his early years living either with his Grandmother or an Aunty in Chipping Norton before Grandad William Burford remarried and then Dad was moved down to Biggin Hill area of Kent. I have not been to Chipping as yet but hope to in next few weeks.

I would be grateful for any help, possible places to look, photo's or any more history of the family.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards

Brian Burford
