History of Edward Painter 1784- 1852.
Ed, had this for some time, pasting it on. can't say that it fits in.Edward Painter, Born Stretford by Manchester, March 1784, Trade Brewer. Painter's unusual power as a boxer, He fought J. Coyne, His trainer was Bob Gregson , the fight was Aug. 23, 1813, J. Alexander, Challenged Painter Nov. 20, 1813. His next fight was with Tom Oliver, May 17, 1814, Lost said fight. John Staw, on april 18,1815 then fought Painter, Painter then met Harry Sutton, A Black, he lost this fight He challenged Sutton to meet him again on aug. 7, 1818 he won.March 21, 1817 Painter took on Mr. Donovan to throw half a Hundredweigth, he beat him by 18 & a half inches. He was a good runner on Nov. 7th,1817, He ran against Spring 5 miles race in 35& a half Min. Thomas Winter Spring, was next to engage with Painter, on April 1,1818 ,he beat him . They then match them again on Aug. 7, 1818, he beat himthen also. Painter now became Landlord of the Anchor, Lobster Lane, Norwich, Va.On July 17th, 1820 , Painter met Tom Oliver in another fight He won this one. Note! It is remarkable that Painter in the first attempt was defeated by Oliver, Sutton & Spring , but that each case on trail, He proved to be conqueror.He lived at Anchor , Moved to White Hart Inn,Market Place,Norwick.Sept. 18, 1852 died, Ram, Lakenham, Norwick.Edward Painter, is Buried St. Peter's Church Yard.
