I have a family of PAINTERs from Oyster Bay, Nassau County, NY without a past.My great-aunt Edith married Chester R. PAINTER.Their grandchildren, my cousins, have me researching this PAINTER family tree.Their progenitor is Job PAINTER born JAN1826 in Oyster Bay, then Queens, NY with parents born in NY according to the 1900 census, names currently unknown.Job married Naomi VELSOR on 21JAN1849, she's the daughter of Thomas VELSOR (1789-1864) and Sarah Van Sise (1789-1867) of Oyster Bay.
Job and Naomi had three sons John (1856->1900); Charles Chester (JAN1863-4MAY1934) and Theodore (APR1879->1900)
John married first Isabelle and second Eleanor (Lena) STAPLES (1866-?)
Chester married Emma Elizabeth VELSOR (24FEB1863-22APR1957)daughter of John D. VELSOR and Sarah Amelia NICHOLS, they had children Helen A.(28APR1894-6JAN1973) and Chester Raymond (8MAY1898-6NOV1948) that married Edith Jemima RANDALL(16OCT1899-18OCT1984).I have the rest of their story.
Theodore (APR1879-?)married Emma VELSOR (MAR1879-?) daughter of William Henry Velsor and Frances WALDRON after the 1900 census.
These are sketchy records but all I have courtesy of Velsor genealogies and federal censuses.I hope Long Island was where you were looking for roots, I could use some help.
