I have information regarding Thomas John Bowyer Pain, who was born October 28, 1849, in London, according to his obituary.

He first went to Canada before he was 18, and worked on a large farm there, but was always more interested in artistic pursuits.

In 1869, he left Canada, and settled here in Kansas City, Missouri, in the United States. He first apprenticed as a carpenter, but by 1874, had developed an interest in glass, and by 1882, was hired as a stained glass window designer at the largest glass and paint company in Kansas City.

When that firm, known at the time as Campbell and Cutler Paint & Glass Company, was divided between the named partners in 1892, Thomas John Bowyer Pain was elevated to the position of Secretary with the new Campbell firm. He held that position for many years.

On May 23, 1882, Mr. Pain married Charlotte Augusta Saunders (1853-1932). They had one daughter, a spinster organist, Lillian Muriel Pain (1893-1979).

Mr. Pain was the Senior Warden of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, located in downtown Kansas City. It is the oldest Episcopal church in Kansas City. He also designed all of its painted glass windows.

Mr. Pain had a great love of books, and amassed a private library of more than 3,000 volumes. Some of his books were so rare that he kept them locked in one of the major bank vaults downtown.

Thomas John Bowyer Pain died on March 1, 1936, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 86 years.

Can anyone assist me with more specific information on his parents, Thomas John Brooks Pain, born in 1826, and Sarah Knight, born about 1821?

If you have information, please feel free to contact me directly at RandalJLoy@gmail.com. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,
