Jeff,

I too used the SVPAFUG guidelines. In your source template where it says author, that can be a personal name or institution.

Here is a suggestion for census entries which works for me.

Title frame: 1870 U.S. census, Conecuh County, Alabama population schedule

Author: leave blank

Publication Information: Washington, D.C.: National Archives

Call Number: T623,roll 10

citation detail: William Ferguson entry, Castleberry Beat, ED 50, Sheet 6, line 44

The above has worked for me. I can use the same source for all of my people in Alabama, instead of creating a separate source for each head of household.
