It has been announced that there will be no further updates of PAF. But companies such as Ohanasoftware.com and Incline Software (AncestralQuest) have continued to develop software to work with PAF, with approval from FamilySearch.
As more and more of FamilySearch's genealogy resources have been digitized and placed on the Web, FamilySearch has mainly given-up on software development in favor of website-based tools. Even FamilySearch Indexing is scheduled to change-over to being browser/website based sometime in 2013. The CD-based products using Resource File Viewer are not compatible with Windows7 and Windows8 so they have been discontinued. In the meantime, billions of historical records that used to be only available on microfilm can now be viewed for free at FamilySearch.org.
That said, I still need dependable software to manage my own personal genealogy database, and PAF works nicely for my purposes.
