Yes, the PAF data files, in the pedigree format, which I just refer to as a chart when I look at the open file. I removed PAF, rebooted, then reinstall PAF. But I still have the same problem. But before I reinstalled, I found work arounds, which I am back to using again. I found one other way to back up a file besides clicking on File>Back up. I read the help and saw that I can click on Match/Merge which causes a pop up to ask if I want to back up the file before I Match/Merge it. I click yes, the file gets backed up, then I close the two pop up boxes. I always used to use File>Export to create a gedcom to post on rootsweb.ancestry.com, but now I use the Export icon. The third procedure that I had to change was when I want to switch to a different PAF file. Now I close PAF, then go to Documents and double click on the PAF icon for the file I want to open. So I still don't know what the problem is. I have used PAF for 10 plus years, and I don't want to have do start all over with some other genealogy program. Thanks for the help anyway.
