The gedcom file keeps the RIN number. e.g. The following GEDCOM line means the individuial with RIN 1017.
But when the file is imported, the old RINs are replaced with new ones so that no two records can have the same RIN
A RIN is just the sequential number assigned when a record is created or imported. It has no meaning in and of itself.
Still, it can be a useful reference when giving someone a copy of your database.
FamilyInsight by ohanasoftware.com has the ability to edit RINs in a PAF database. You can download it and use it 6 weeks for free. I am not sure whether it will solve the problem.
