Global Replace
Posted by: Martin Graves (ID *****6369) Date: November 03, 2010 at 12:58:32

Over the years, I have changed my 'style', and decided that unknown information (such as dates and places) needed an entry and not left blank. Becuase of this change, when I printed or created webpages, the 'missing' data had a gentle reminder to the reader that the date or place was 'Unknown'.

I have now opened a seldom used PAF to being clean-up. I want to replace the blank Birth Date/Birth Location and/or Death Date/Death Location and/or Burial Location with some 'Unknown' text.

If I use the Global Replace tool to try this, it will not let me replace 'nothing' (null).

Any idea on how to replace a 'nothing' (null) value with 'something', in mass? I'm talking 1000's of records...

Also, I want to do conditionally. Example, if Burial Location is blank, but Death Date has a value, then update Burial Location ....

Your insights appreciated.
