Hi Carl, Merging can be easy or it can be a mine field! Usually it is a bit of both. Firstly, I would try "Match primarily on" > "Unique record serial numbers" > "Automatically match exact duplicates" > OK. In your particular case it may or may not work, but it is the safest starting point and can save a lot of work. Then, I would try "Match primarily on" > "Ancestral File Numbers (AFNs)" > "Automatically match exact duplicates" > OK. In the case of gedcoms from FamilySearch this can be like magic! If you still have duplicates, I would write down the RINs of the duplicates, then on the Merge screen click on Primary Individual > Find and type in the RIN for that one, then Secondary Individual > Find and type in the RIN for the duplicate, and click the Merge button. That should take care of it. If the RINs are not showing, click Tools > Preferences > Names > Append to names ... RIN (Record ID Number) > OK Was this helpful?
