Thanks for the suggestions, Bill, but my problem is connected with WordPerfect it seems. Let me emphasize that these characters are NOT in my document but pop up in the Index of my Register Report after I have created it in WP - with WP using the index entries that were created by PAF Companion.

The secondary index entry (given names, dates, maiden name for married females) created by PAF Companion is sometimes longer than the one I can create myself in WP. I know because I tried to correct one.

In spite of those special characters appearing in the index list, the actual long entry is printed in full. I don't lose any data but the perfectionist in me doesn't like those extraneous characters.

Those special characters (having nothing to do with foreign marks) are APPARENTLY generated in WP X3 when the secondary entry is long, apparently longer than the space on the "Mark Index" screen. They run the gamut of ordinary punctuation: !@#$%&*+,. even extra parens as in ..... (1923-1945)(. I do a Search & Delete for each character individually. Takes a bit of time so is a pain in the .....

I have PrimoPDF installed on my PC. Sorry this reply has been so long in coming.
