I find exactly the same thing. I thought part of the problem it might be due to Vista, but XP does the same thing.
I looked at the Register Report done by PAF Companion, and it has fewer choices. So save the $6.75.
Maybe look at it in the free version of Legacy, and see if it will do what you want. (The PAF file will open in Legacy without needing top use gedcom.)
Other than that, you might want to try one of the other programs at your closest Family History Center. Once the RTF/Word file is created you can always take it home and print it.
