I like your thought of having an interesting URL. I am somewhat unimaginative on that score. I have recently moved my main free website to which is looking quite promising so far. They provide a pseudo domain of I was able to get so I imagine that there should be lots of good names available ending in
Like I said it is free. It has no advertizing banners. My biggest worry is whether they are financially stable. I have had various free sites go offline when the webhost folded. This is a real pain because the effort made in publicizing the URL is lost.

Of course, if you go with a commercial site this should be of less risk. And some of them may give you a good URL as well.

I have used PAF for my database web pages, and find it works very well for my purposes. I used to use FrontPage Express for additional webpages, customizing the index pages, etc. More recently I have switched to Kompozer (the free updated version of NVU), for this purpose. I have adopted the free primoPDF for creating family history books and charts for posting them online. I found that Microsoft's RTF format is very unreliable, whereas PDF will look the same on all computers. PrimoPDF and similar free PDF writers will produce PDF documents from PAF, Word, or any other software that can be used for printed output.

All in all, I have had a lot of enjoyment from my personal websites. More importantly, I get emails and phone calls from long lost relatives who want me to add their branch to the family tree.

I wish you many similar experiences.
