Jackie,
Note that PAF only supports a limited numbner of image file formats. So for this to work, the images need to be saved in a format PAF understands. I use the standard JPEG/JPG format, but PNG works fine too and is preferred by many. If you need to convert a batch of images to one of these formats, the free Irfanview program makes this easy. www.irfanview.com
1. I suggest that the first step is to make sure you have a folder in the same location as your PAF data. The folder can be called "PAF Media" "PAF-Images" or whatever makes sense to you, but I suggest that you have PAF in the folder name.
2. Copy the images you want to use in PAF to this media folder.
3. In PAF, find the person you want to attach an image to. (I prefer to use the Family view for this) and click the camera icon. Select Add > Photo > Browse, find the photo and double-click its name and click OK and then Save.
Voila! You have attached an image to one of the people in your database. Note that the image itself is not incorporated into you database. (The "before" and "after" sizes of the database will be the same.) PAF has added a pointer (link) that points to the image. This why it is important to keep the media with the data. Otherwise moving the data and the media to a new location breaks the links to the images. (If they are in the same location, you can copy both to a flash drive (or whatever) and the links remain intact.
I use 300 dots per inch for my images if they might get printed, or 100 dpi for viewing. For default photos I use head and shoulders "mug shots" so I can actually see the people's faces. Experiment a bit yourself, to see what you prefer. If you have an 8 MPx digital camera, you may find Irfanview handy for resizing some of the images.
I love PAF's ability to add photos and scanned documents. If an argumentative cousin disputes great-grandma's birthdate, a scanned image of her birth registration document is a wonderful ally to have at hand!
Bill
