I'm just another person with genealogy as a hobby. I DO have a software engineering background though. A group of friends and I were putting together a "book" on our family for a recent reunion. I was having trouble with printing from PAF and getting pictures placed correctly. I bought PAFWIZ to get nice PDF output and pictures where they needed to be. I've bought and used 1) Family Tree Maker (not too excited about it); 2) Legacy (don't see what it has over PAF); and recently bought The Master Genealogist. I'm still playing with TMG, but I started with PAF back in the DOS era, so most of my sources were typed into the "notes" section of PAF (new ones are in the SOURCES section), and it would be a pain to change all of them. I'm finding TMG is not terribly user friendly when it comes to moving around in your data, or even creating a web page. I've really been surprised at how much I don't like it. I think I may just stick with PAF until it's no longer supported and then I'll be FORCED to pick another one.
