Gary, thanks for your response.

This isn't an issue for the help functions because I am not looking for how to use the program but rather the actual language syntax for Gedcom.

I was able to find a web page with the gedcom tags and their definitions which is a start. I have been able to use that to write a program to use my database to create a basic Gedcom file which PAF 5 would import correctly.

Unfortunately, PAF doesn't automate the merger process so I think I have to solve that problem also. "My background is computer automation - 35 years - and I really hate doing anything manually more than once."
