PAF Insight is a program for working with PAF databases (not gedcom files). If you have broadband Internet, it may be the best way of searching the IGI Ordinance Index. It has other features, like allowing you to synchronize two PAF databases by adding the people who are present in the secondary database but missing from the primary database. It can show you how many unconnected family trees are in your database and who is in which one. And it has the ability to successfully repair many PAF databases that are damaged beyond PAF's ability to repair. I believe the present cost is $20 US, but check the info on their website.

Pointers are internal parts of a file that point to related data so that the data itself doesn't have to be stored multiple times. (e.g. other family members)

My offer to try repairing your damaged database still stands. It will only take me a few minutes to run PAF Insight's repair routine and then check the repaired file with PAF's repair routine. There is no guarantee that it will work, but I have had success before.
