Thanks, Tana. Your suggestion worked. A minor frustration was that the connections to all the children were removed and I had to reselect them.

I know this should be in a new thread, but while I have your attention, let me ask if you know: How do I keep "He/She never married." from printing on Companion's Registry Report? It looks silly if the person was a child who (from the dates) obviously died young or was even stillborn.
