Here's an update. I found a program called BK ReplaceEm that will do search and replace on any text file. I just ran it against the entire webspage directory and had it replace every occurance of the bad character with <br> (line break) html command. That works great and does the whole website in about 20 seconds. I do use Notepad now though, it's just the notes I recorded before that are bad. Thanks for the advice.
