Gerald - You should be able to move your entire PAF 2.31 database to PAF 5.2.18 without losing anything. Since I moved my database from PAF 1.0 --> PAF 2.31 -->then to PAF 3.0 --> PAF 4.0 --> PAF 5.1 --PAF 5.2 over a period of several years, I don't know whether there is a direct conversion, or whether you have to make a GEDCOM.

I do know that a GEDCOM from PAF 2.3 can be imported into PAF 5.2 without losing any information, including notes.

Like Debbie Atchley (who answered your last post), I use PAF Companion to create Register (book) reports. You can create Register reports directly from PAF 5.2, but they aren't as good as those created by PAF Companion -- i.e., more editing required. I don't have the latest version of PAF Companion, but you can get it (for $5.00 or some such) from Familysearch.org. You can also buy the CD version of PAF 5.2 from Familysearch.org ($10.00 or some such for both programs), or you can download PAF 5.2 free (takes about 20-30 minutes if you don't have broadaband). The instruction manual for PAF 5.2 is a .pdf file, and is included with the download.

I also have Family Tree Maker for Windows (FTW); have made a few Register reports from FTW, but they seem to require more editing & manipulation than those created by PAF Companion. I use FTW as a utility program, because I like its outline descendants charts better than those produced by PAF.
