deleting names as a group from imported

Hello,
I'm new to PAF. Got my free PAF 4.o yesterday. I downloaded a gedcom to add to my own people. I figured why type all of that branch when someone else has already done it once. How do I delete all the names of their people that don't apply to me? There are 4664 people now. I've been in the help section but it says when you focus/filter it say it doesn't delete them from you database. Does this mean I have to delete individualy all the way back to Adam? Can I pick a person and ask it to delete everyone back from him?
Thanks for looking,
RCoad
